Thomas Hermann
Thomas Hermann studied physics at Bielefeld University (M.Sc. equivalent Dipl. Phys.). From 1998 to 2001 he was a member of the interdisciplinary Graduate Program “Task-oriented Communication”. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2002 from Bielefeld University (thesis: Sonification for Exploratory Data Analysis). After research stays at the Bell Labs (2000), Glasgow University (2004) and McGill (2008), since 2008 he is senior researcher and head of the Ambient Intelligence Group within the Center of Excellence in Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) at Bielefeld University, Germany. Thomas is member of the board of directors of ICAD since 2003, he served as German delegate of COST Action 287 (Gesture Controlled Audio Systems) and vice-chair and leader of the Sonification working group within COST Action IC0601 (SID – Sonic Interaction Design, 2007-2011). Together with Andy Hunt he initiated the Interactive Sonification workshop series and is guest editor for the IEEE Multimedia special issue on Interactive Sonification. Together with Roberto Bresin and Andy Hunt, he co-organized the ISon 2011 workshop and is guest editor of a Springer JMUI special issue (in production). Thomas is driven by the wish to develop new methods that brings auditory and multi-modal interactions to helpful applications that serve a positive purpose such as supporting and helping people. His key research interests are sonification, ambient intelligence, human-computer interaction and cognitive interaction technology.

Andy Hunt
Andy Hunt is a senior lecturer in Music Technology at the University of York, UK. His research focuses on the human-computer interaction techniques for music and creative engineering; bringing together new musical instruments and complex interaction techniques for auditory display. He is also supervising a number of Masters and PhD students in the area of sonification, aiming at improving auditory display interaction, and especially on mobile, multi-touch devices. Together with Thomas Hermann he initiated the Interactive Sonification workshop series and is guest editor for the IEEE Multimedia special issue on Interactive Sonification. Together with Roberto Bresin and Thomas Hermann, he co-organized the ISon 2011 workshop and is guest editor of a Springer JMUI special issue (in production).
